# Why We Are Building on BTRC-20

BTRC-20 is a inscription standard on the BitTorrent network that employs transaction calldata to encode token information, diverging from the conventional dependence on smart contracts. This method facilitates substantial cost savings, especially regarding gas fees, and improves transaction throughput.

The BTRC-20 is community-driven, open-source, decentralized, and non-profit. Our aim is to invigorate the long-dormant BitTorrent ecosystem by empowering the $BTTS and BitTorrent Inscription Ecosystem.
